Business Is Like Running Ultras

Most people think business success comes from big bursts of energy — a great idea, a perfect pitch, a single lucky break. But if you’ve ever run an ultramarathon, you know that’s not how it works.
An ultra is not about speed. It’s about staying in the game when most people quit. It’s about managing your pace, reading the terrain, and adapting when the conditions change — because they always change.
There are moments when everything hurts. Your legs, your lungs, and your mind are all screaming at you to stop. In business, it’s the same — the deal falls through, the cash runs low, the team hits a wall.
What separates the finishers from the dropouts isn’t talent or even preparation — it’s the ability to keep moving forward when nothing in you feels like moving. It’s making small, consistent moves that stack into something unstoppable.
In an ultra, the finish line is just the reward. The real victory is knowing you didn’t break. In business, the same rule applies: The outcome matters, but the process is what transforms you.
You don’t have to run 100 miles to learn this. But if you want to last in business, learn to think like an ultrarunner: Pace yourself. Adapt quickly. And keep moving forward, no matter what.
Where Coaching Fits In
When I coach entrepreneurs, we build their business strategy the same way I build my race strategy:
A clear course map so you know exactly where you’re going
Time blocks and checkpoints to keep you on pace
Adaptive tools to respond to obstacles without losing momentum
I don’t just help clients hit goals — I help them build the endurance to keep going after they’ve crossed the first finish line.
If you’re ready to operate at that level, let’s talk. Because the right structure, mindset, and execution rhythm will take you farther than motivation ever will.
